THE CHOSEN FEW
Once, a manufacturing company put advertisement out to fill 10 vacancies, it got 1000 applicants and the recruiters went to work, screening the applicants to get the 10 best ones. Eventually 10 people were chosen and the remaining 990 were not. Thinking about this, i remember the words of the Lord which says that "many are called, but few chosen" (Matthew 20:16). That was true of the manufacturing company and it is also true of the Kingdom of God.
God is calling everyone. He is calling sinners to repentance. Jesus said, "come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and i will give you rest" (Matthew 11:28). He is still calling as many people as will have ears to hear.
There are people who are not heeding the call while others are busy doing their own things. It is just like the days of Noah when he called but only the members of his house heeded the call. Jesus advised us to "Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction and THERE ARE MANY WHO GO IN BY IT. Because narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and THERE ARE FEW WHO FIND IT (Matthew 7:13-14). The questions that come to my mind as i read these verses are (1) why is the gate to life narrow? (2) why is the gate that leads to destruction broad? (3) why are there many who go in by the gate to destruction? and (4) why are there few who find the gate to life?
My answer to these questions are as follows and i just want to be so brief about it. (1) The gate to life is narrow because there is no accommodation for unforgiveness, fornication, adultery, back biting and all other sins. It is too narrow to accommodate any baggage and no partner is allowed to join anyone. So you are on your own. (2) The gate to destruction is broad because it is full of alternatives and options that help people to compromise their faith and belief. It is also constructed to provide "comfort" for anyone that travels through it. (3) There are many who go in by the gate to destruction because man cannot stand pain and no one likes to endure anything anymore. We are in a jet age where there is drive-thru everywhere. People are impatient and only what gives fun and comfort is reasonable and acceptable; and lastly (4) There are few who find the way to life because few people like the truth. The true God seekers are in the minority today and those who belonged to the few before are getting out because they can no longer endure.
My prayer is that the good Lord will keep you standing as you live in awe of Him. May you be among the few that will be chosen.
